Before you rent a car, I must mention that driving in Albania can be daunting and challenging as a foreigner. The Albanian drivers have a chaotic and sometimes aggressive style of driving. So only drive in Albania if you are a confident and experienced driver. 

Never drive in Albania at night, due to the limited street lighting. And turn around if you come across a sand path or dirt track in a more remote area.

How long does it take to get from Vlore to Tirana airport?

It does take approximately 2 or 2.5 hours to get from Vlore to Tirana airport. First, you will drive from Vlore to Durres and then from Durres, you take the highway to Tirana airport / Tirana.

Yellow taxis are stationed in front of the Arrivals Hall. The airport logo is displayed on both sides of the taxi. And the official price list is on their website. So it is legit and official. 

Is there a train from Tirana airport to Vlore?

There is no train from Tirana airport to Vlore or vice versa. Tirana airport does not have a train station and there is no railway at Tirana airport. Vlore used to have a railway station and connecting railway, but that railway is not operational right now. 

There are very few operational trains in Albania. In the communist period, between the end of the Second World War and 1992, there were trains between Shkoder, Tirana, Durres, Elbasan, Pogradec and Vlore. However, many of the old railways are currently not in use. 

Since the fall of communism in 1992, there has been little investment and little interest in the railways in Albania. Therefore, some of the old railways remain visible in the landscape but are not operational.

Buses from Tirana city to Vlore depart at 5:00, 5:30, 5:55, 6:20, 6:45, 7:10, 7:35, 8:00, 8:25, 8:50, 9:15, 9:40, 10:05, 10:30, 11:00, 11:30, 12:00, 12:30, 13:00, 13:30, 14:00, 14:30, 15:00, 15:30, 16:00, 16:30, 17:00 and 17:30. A bus ticket from Tirana city to Vlore costs 6 euros per person. 

The bus from Tirana city to Vlore departs from the Regional Bus Terminal North and South Albania. This bus terminal is located at about 10-15 minute drive from the city centre. So you can take a city bus to Instituti from the back of the National History Museum or a short taxi ride to get to the bus terminal. Is Vlore Albania worth visiting?

Vlore is a large coastal town along the Albanian Riviera. Vlore is worth visiting if you enjoy staying in a large coastal town and want to have all the facilities nearby like restaurants, bars, cafes and shops. 

The main boulevard in Vlore is called Lungomare. That is the boulevard alongside the beach. So if you are staying in Vlore it is great to stay in that area. 

Vlore is also a great alternative to Saranda if you don’t want to make a 5-hour drive from Tirana to Saranda. Vlore is only a 2.5-hour drive from Tirana, so you can spend less driving time and more time to enjoying.

Insider Tip! Visit the small Zvernec island near Vlore, it is pretty and picturesque.
