So only drive in Albania if you are a confident and experienced driver. Never drive at night, due to the limited street lighting. And turn around if you come across a sand path or dirt track in a more remote area.

Is there a train from Tirana airport to Vlore?

There is no train from Tirana airport to Vlore. Tirana Airport does not have a train station and there is no railway connection. Vlore used to have a train station, but no trains operate to Vlore these days.

You may see some of the old railway tracks in the landscape on your way from Tirana airport to Vlore. However, these railways are not in use. After the fall of communism in 1992, there has been little interest and investment in the railway network. As a result, many railways, including the railway to Vlore, are currently not in use. 

According to HSH, which is Albanian Railways. There are plans to refurbish and re-open the railway between Tirana and Durres. If you are staying in Tirana city, you can take a taxi, rental car or bus to Vlore. It will take you approximately 2.5 hours to get from Tirana’s city centre to Vlore.

So you can take a city bus to Instituti from the back of the National History Museum or a short taxi ride to get to the bus terminal.
