How to get from Ksamil to Saranda by bus?

You can get from Ksamil to Saranda by bus. A bus ticket from Ksamil to Saranda costs 150 LEK (1.30 EUR) per person. Buses depart from Butrint and drive via Ksamil to Saranda. Buses depart from Butrint between 7:00 AM and 20:00 PM, approximately 10 minutes later the bus will make stops in Ksamil and drive onwards to Saranda. 

Ksamil to Saranda bus ticket price

A bus ticket from Ksamil to Saranda costs 150 LEK (1.30 EUR) per person. You are expected to pay for your bus ticket in cash onboard the bus. An employee from the bus company will pass through the bus to collect the cash payment. So it is best to bring the correct amount of cash with you, 150 LEK, so that you can pay easily during the bus ride. 

You cannot book your bus ticket in advance or pay online. You can only pay in cash once you are onboard the bus.

Ksamil to Saranda bus timetable

The bus from Ksamil to Saranda actually starts from Butrint. Basically, the bus departs from Butrint and then drives via Ksamil to Saranda. 

The bus departs from Butrint at 7:00 AM, 7:30 AM, 8:00 AM, 8:30 AM, 9:00 AM, 9:30 AM, 10:00 AM, 10:30 AM, 11:00 AM, 11:30 AM, 12:30 PM, 13:30 PM, 14:30 PM, 15:30 PM, 16:00 PM, 16:30 PM, 17:00 PM, 17:30 PM, 18:00 PM, 18:30 PM, 19:00 PM, 19:30 PM and 20:00 PM. 

Approximately 10 minutes after the bus departs from Butrint, the bus will make stops in Ksamil. Then, you can then board the bus from Ksamil in the direction of Saranda. 

Ksamil to Saranda bus stop

There are 4 x bus stops in Ksamil where you can get on the bus to Saranda. These bus stops are called Ksamil 1st bus stop, Ksamil 2nd bus stop, Ksamil 3rd bus stop and Ksamil 4th bus stop on Google Maps. 

All the bus stops are located alongside the main road from Butrint via Ksamil to Saranda. 

Taxi from Ksamil to Saranda

A taxi from Ksamil to Saranda costs around 13 euros for a one-way ride. To give you a good insight into the taxi prices from Ksamil to Saranda, I reached out to several taxi drivers in Saranda and compared their taxi prices.

Ksamil to Saranda taxi prices:

  • Taxi Blerim charges 1500 Leke (13 euros) for a taxi from Ksamil to Saranda.
  • Taxi Saranda charges 1500 Leke (13 euros) for a taxi from Ksamil to Saranda.
  • Taxi in Saranda charges 1200 Leke (10.50 euros) for a taxi from Ksamil to Saranda.
  • Taxi Saranda 251 charges 1700 Leke (15 euros) for a taxi from Ksamil to Saranda. 

That being said, I have received some messages from tourists who were charged 2500 Leke (23 euros) for a taxi from Ksamil to Saranda or Saranda to Ksamil. Of course, in the high season months, like July and August, some taxi drivers will try to get more money for a short ride from Ksamil to Saranda as it is a popular tourist destination.

How to get from Ksamil to Saranda by rental car?

You can rent a car and drive from Ksamil to Saranda. Renting a car in Saranda will cost you at least 20-25 euros per day. 

I have reached out to some of the independent car rental companies in Saranda to request their car rental prices. These are the prices they charge for their cheapest rental car. 

  • Leka Tours & Rent a Car Sarande charges 20 euros per day for a Citroen C1 or 25 euros per day for a Suzuki Swift.
  • Saranda Holiday Rent a Car charges 200 euros per week, so approximately 28.50 euros per day, for a Fiat Panda or a Toyota Yaris.
  • Moto Adventure Cars and Motercycles Rental charges 140 euros per week, so 20 euros per day, for a Toyota Yaris.
  • Centrum Rent a Car Saranda charges 25 euros per day for a Suzuki Swift, Chevrolet Spark or Volkswagen Polo. 
  • Brilant Car Rental Sarande charges 20 euros per day for a Toyota Yaris.
  • Saranda Center Scooter and Car Rental charges 200 euros per week, so approximately 28.50 euros per day, for a Toyota Yarris 1.4 Diesel.
  • Iri’s Car Rental charges 20 euros per day for a Nisan Note.

If you are travelling to Saranda or Ksamil and you plan on renting a car, I highly recommend you book a car before you travel. Booking or reserving a rental car may be as easy as reaching out to several car rentals before you travel via WhatsApp or email. 

Car rental rates tend to be higher in July and August as this is the tourist season. And car rental companies may not have a cheaper or more basic rental car available anymore. And would therefore only offer a much more expensive rental car. So do your research before you travel!

With regards to driving in Albania, I recommend that you only drive if you are an experienced and alert driver. Albanian drivers have a chaotic and aggressive style of driving, so you will be challenged. If you have any doubts about driving, please take a bus or hire a taxi instead, safety comes first!


Can I get from Ksamil to Saranda by train?

You cannot take a train from Ksamil to Saranda. Ksamil does not have a railway station or any railways. Saranda does not have a railway station or any railways either. So train travel from Ksamil to Saranda is not possible. 

Whilst you travel through Albania, you might see some of the railway tracks in the landscape. In the communist period, from the end of the Second World War until 1992, railways were constructed in Albania. 

These railways used to connect Shkoder, Durres, Tirana, Elbasan, Pogradec and Vlore. However, currently, many of these railways are not in use. 

Since the fall of communism in 1992, there has been little to no investment in the railway network. The railways were broken and people affiliated these railways with communism. But also due to the lack of investment, trains could not drive fast, so were not an effective way of getting from A to B. Therefore, Albanian people prefer the minibuses they call Furgons. 

You may be able to take a train between Durres and Elbasan or Shkoder and Lac, these railways operate 1-2 times per week. 

How long does it take to get from Ksamil to Saranda?

It only takes 20-25 minutes to get from Ksamil to Saranda. Ksamil is close to Saranda. Ksamil is located 14 kilometres to the south of Saranda. Of course, it depends on traffic. In July and August, both Saranda and Ksamil are busy due to the tourist season. Heavy traffic in the city centre of Saranda or the centre of Ksamil can slow your journey down. Similarly, buses may get stuck in traffic and get to their destination later.

How to get to Ksamil from Saranda Port?

You can get to Ksamil from the Port of Saranda by bus, by taxi or by rental car. 

There is a direct bus from the Port of Saranda to Ksamil. There is a bus stop near the ferry terminal in the Port of Saranda. The bus stop is located on Rruga Jonianet (Jonianet Street) near the Port of Saranda. There is a roundabout with a big tree near the bus stop. The bus departs from the Port of Saranda at 6:30 AM, 7:00 AM, 7:30 AM, 8:00 AM, 8:30 AM, 9:00 AM, 9:30 AM, 10:00 AM, 10:30 AM, 11:00 AM, 11:30 AM, 12:00 PM, 12:30 PM, 13:30 PM, 14:30 PM, 15:30 PM, 16:30 PM, 17:00 PM, 17:30 PM, 18:00 PM, 18:30 PM, 19:00 PM and 21:30 PM. A bus ticket from Saranda to Ksamil costs 150 Leke (1.30 euros) per person for a one-way journey.

Of course, you could take a taxi from the Port of Saranda to Ksamil. Usually, a taxi from Saranda to Ksamil costs around 13 euros for a one-way ride. However, some taxi drivers may ask you for as much as 2500 Leke (23 euros) in the tourist high-season.

Saranda to Ksamil bus timetable

The bus from Saranda to Ksamil departs at 6:30 AM, 7:00 AM, 7:30 AM, 8:00 AM, 8:30 AM, 9:00 AM, 9:30 AM, 10:00 AM, 10:30 AM, 11:00 AM, 11:30 AM, 12:00 PM, 12:30 PM, 13:30 PM, 14:30 PM, 15:30 PM, 16:30 PM, 17:00 PM, 17:30 PM, 18:00 PM, 18:30 PM, 19:00 PM and 21:30 PM. 

If you want to take the bus from Saranda to Ksamil, you are basically taking the bus from Saranda via Ksamil to Butrint. So the bus’s final destination is actually Butrint, but you are getting off the bus in Ksamil beforehand.

If you want to get a seat on the bus, it is best to get on the bus at the Port of Saranda ferry terminal. Because the bus to Ksamil and Butrint gets filled up quickly, and therefore, you may need to stand in the bus if you get on at a later station.

It will only take you 20-25 minutes by bus to get from Saranda to Ksamil. Of course, it all depends a bit on how much traffic there is on the road. You can definitely expect it to be busy in high-season months, like July and August. 

How far is Saranda from Ksamil?

Saranda is only a 20-25 minute drive from Ksamil. The distance from Saranda to Ksamil is only 14 kilometres. The road is a newly paved asphalt road. Bear in mind that heavy traffic in July and August may slow your journey down as you get stuck in traffic.
