When I was recently looking for a flight to Albania, I was searches for a list of airlines that fly direct to Albania. But I could not find a complete list anywhere. So, I decided to make my own list of airlines and turn it into a helpful blog post.

What is the best alternative for a direct flight to Albania?

If you country or nearby airport does not offer a direct flight to Albania, you can book a flight to Corfu island instead.

Netherlands Albania flights

The only airline that flies from the Netherlands to Albania is Transavia Airways. Transavia is a budget airline from the Netherlands. Although the airline is owned by Air France and KLM, these bigger airlines do not offer a flight to Albania themselves.

Transavia flies from Amsterdam to Tirana. The plane departs from Amsterdam Schiphol Airport, which has airport code AMS. And it lands at Tirana International Airport (TIA). You can expect a flight time of 2 hours and 30 minutes.

Austria Albania flights

The only airline that offers a direct flight from Austria to Albania is Austrian Airways. Austrian Airways is the national flag carrier of Austria and it is owned by Lufthansa airways. The direct flight to Albania departs from Vienna.

    The only airline that flies direct between Ancona and Tirana is Blue Panorama airlines. The flight departs from Ancona Airport. The airport is also called Marche Airport and it has the airport code AOI. The Albania flight time from Ancona to Tirana is 1 hour and 20 minutes.
  3. Bari to Tirana flights
    The flight from Bari to Tirana is very short and only lasts 50 minutes. You can book this flight with Blue Panorama airlines. The flight departs from Bari Karol Wojtyla Airport. The airport is around 8 kilometres to the northwest of the town centre. The airport code is BRI. The flight arrives at Tirana International Airport (TIA).

The main airport of Albania is Tirana International Airport. The airport in Tirana is the only airport in Albania. The airport is also known as Nene Tereza Airport, which means Mother Teresa airport. And it is sometimes called Rinas International Airport, because it is in the Rinas village.

Tirana Airport is a small airport compared to the large European airports. The airport has 3 rows of check-in desks and only 7 gates. All the facilities, like tax free shopping, cafes, currency exchange and ATMs are present. But it is all on a smaller scale. Tirana airport is open 24 hours, but most of the restaurants and shops close after 22:00.

Tirana International Airport is located 17 kilometres from the city center of Tirana. Therefore, it takes only 30 minutes to travel from Tirana airport to the city center. You can travel to the city center by shuttle bus, taxi or by rental car. There is no train connection to the airport.

The airport is located along the highway between the coastal town Durres and Tirana city. Therefore, if you plan on booking a hotel for your first night, either city is conveniently located.

Albania does have only one airport serving the country. The closest airports in the neighboring countries are Corfu airport and Podgorica airport. Corfu airport is located on an island in front of the Albanian coast. You can take a boat trip from the island to Albania, which lasts between 30 – 70 minutes. Alternatively, you can fly to Podgorica airport in Montenegro and drive across the border to Albania.

Corfu airport is a good choice if you are aiming for the south of Albania. And Podgorica airport is a great choice if you are interested in the north of Albania.

Does Albania have airline?

Albawings airline is a low-cost airline based in Albania. The airline operated it’s first flight in August 2016 and currently owns 3 airplanes. With Albawings you can fly to Dusseldorf, London and several Italian cities. Moreover, Albawings has a codeshare agreement with Blue Panorama Airlines, which means that Blue Panorama sells tickets for Albawings on their website.
