The UPs Taxi App is actually quite similar to Uber. Basically, UPs is an app that connects you to taxi owners. So the taxi drivers are not employed by UPs Taxi and UPs Taxi does not own the cars. It is worth mentioning that all the UPs Taxi drivers are licensed taxi drivers and cars. So it is actually safer than Uber, where anyone with or without a license can drive an Uber.

Are taxis expensive in Albania?

Taxis are relatively expensive in Albania. Although you could say that taxis are an expensive means of transportation everywhere in the world, taxis are more expensive in Albania.

For instance, if you take the intercity bus from Tirana to Saranda, you will be charged 12 euros for a one-way trip. A taxi from Tirana to Saranda costs between 134 euros – 191 euros. So a taxi is 11 x times more expensive than a local bus.

And bear in mind that the Albanian monthly wage is around 300 euros per month. So the average Albanian person could never afford to take a taxi from Tirana to Saranda.
