Where is the bus station in Saranda?

The bus station in Saranda is located alongside Rruga Flamurit between Friendship Park and the archaeological remains of the Synagogue – Basilica in the centre of Saranda. 

Actually, there is no formal bus terminal or parking space, where all the buses depart. Instead, the buses stop alongside the street in Rruga Flamurit. 

So if you are looking for a bus station in Saranda, you must go to Rruga Flamurit in the city centre. And walk alongside the Rruga Flamurit Street from Friendship Park, across the crossing with Rruga Onhezmi and towards the crossing with Rruga Lefter Talo. This is the street where the buses stop in Saranda.

There are some restaurants and shops alongside the street, but this is not a formal bus terminal with facilities like toilets.

As you can see all these markers on Google Maps indicate a location alongside Rruga Flamurit Street in the centre of Saranda. So if you want to catch a bus from Saranda to another place in Albania, simply walk alongside Flamurit Street to find your bus departure point. 

In Albania, you cannot book your bus ticket online and pay online for your bus ticket. You are expected to go in person to the bus station in Saranda and pay for your ticket in cash. So bring some cash euros or cash Albanian Leke to the Saranda bus station. So that you can pay for your ticket in cash to the driver of the bus.

To get on a bus from Saranda to another place in Albania, you must walk alongside Rruga Flamurit Street. Start from Friendship Park and walk toward the crossing with Rruga Onhezmi and then onwards to the crossing with Rruga Lefter Talo. The buses make stops alongside this street. 

There is no large bus terminal on Rruga Flamurit Street. Instead, buses simply stop alongside the road in Rruga Flamurit.

The bus station from Saranda to Tirana is also located alongside the Rruga Flamurit Street in the centre of Saranda. The buses from Saranda to Tirana depart on Rruga Flamurit Street between Friendship Park and the archaeological remains of the Synagogue – Basilica.

There is also a bus agency called Trans Butrinti Bus Agency, which operates buses from Saranda to Tirana. You can find the ticket office on the corner of Rruga Flamurit Street and Rruga Onhezmi.

Buses from Saranda to Tirana depart at 5:00 AM, 5:30 AM, 6:30 AM, 8:30 AM, 9:30 AM, 10:30 AM, 14:00 PM and 22:00 PM. A bus ticket costs 15,50 euros per person. The bus journey from Saranda to Tirana takes approximately 5 hours depending on traffic. 

Not all the buses from Saranda to Tirana are operated by Trans Butrinti, but quite a few are. You can always double-check the bus timetable from Saranda to Tirana on the Gjirafa Autobus website. That being said, you will get the most reliable and up-to-date information by going to the bus station in Saranda in person and asking around in person.

Bus station Saranda to Ksamil

The bus from Saranda to Ksamil makes several stops in Saranda. So there are different bus stations where you can get on the bus from Saranda to Ksamil.

  • Bus station near Ferry Terminal – Saranda to Ksamil
  • Bus station in the city centre of Saranda – Saranda to Ksamil
  • Bus station near Hotel Butrinti in Saranda – Saranda to Ksamil

The bus from Saranda to Ksamil departs from the bus stop near the ferry terminal. Basically, you will need to find the bus stop on Rruga Jonianet near the Port of Saranda, there is a roundabout with a big tree near to the bus stop. If you want to get a seat on the bus, it is best to get on the bus at the Port of Saranda ferry terminal. Because the bus to Ksamil and Butrint gets full with passengers quickly. And therefore, you may need to stand on the bus if you get on at a later station.

It will only take you 20-25 minutes by bus to get from Saranda to Ksamil. Of course, it all depends a bit on how much traffic there is on the road. You can expect the bus to be busy in high-season months, like July and August. 

Saranda to Ksamil bus timetable

The bus from Saranda to Ksamil departs at 6:30 AM, 7:00 AM, 8:00 AM, 8:30 AM, 9:30 AM, 10:30 AM, 11:30 AM, 12:30 PM, 13:30 PM, 14:30 PM, 15:30 PM, 16:30 PM, 17:30 PM and 18:30 PM. 

If you want to take the bus from Saranda to Ksamil, you are basically taking the bus from Saranda via Ksamil to Butrint. So the bus’s final destination is actually Butrint, but you are getting off the bus in Ksamil beforehand.

Ksamil to Saranda bus timetable

You can also take the bus back from Ksamil to Saranda. The bus departs from Butrint, which is slightly to the South of Ksamil. From Butrint, it drives via Ksamil to Saranda. The bus departs from Butrint at 7:00 AM, 7:30 AM, 8:30 AM, 9:30 AM, 10:30 AM, 11:30 AM, 12:30 PM, 13:30 PM, 14:30 PM, 15:30 PM, 16:30 PM, 17:30 PM, 18:30 PM and 19:30 PM. 


Bus station Saranda to Butrint

The bus station from Saranda to Butrint is the same as the bus station for Ksamil. Because the bus drives from Saranda via Ksamil to Butrint. 

There are different bus stops in Saranda, where you can get on the bus to Butrint:

  • Bus station near Ferry Terminal – Saranda to Butrint
  • Bus station in the city centre of Saranda – Saranda to Butrint
  • Bus station near Hotel Butrinti in Saranda – Saranda to Butrint

The bus from Saranda to Butrint departs from a bus station near the ferry terminal. The bus station is located on Rruga Jonianet near the Port of Saranda. It is worth travelling to the Port of Saranda to get on the bus from Saranda to Butrint. Because when you get on the bus at the Port of Saranda, you may still have a seat on the bus. The bus does tend to fill up quickly with passengers. So if you were to get on the bus at a later station, you might end up standing during the bus journey.

Saranda to Butrint bus timetable

The bus timetable from Saranda to Butrint is in operation between 6:30 AM and 18:30 PM. The bus departs from Saranda to Butrint at 6:30 AM, 7:00 AM, 8:00 AM, 8:30 AM, 9:30 AM, 10:30 AM, 11:30 AM, 12:30 PM, 13:30 PM, 14:30 PM, 15:30 PM, 16:30 PM, 17:30 PM and 18:30 PM. This bus from Saranda to Butrint drives via Ksamil, so the bus timetable is the same.

Bus station Saranda to Gjirokaster

The bus station to get from Saranda to Gjirokaster is located on Rruga Flamurit (Flamurit Street) in the city centre of Saranda. The buses depart on Rruga Flamurit Street in between Friendship Park and the archaeological remains of the Synagogue – Basilica. 

In essence, the Saranda bus station is a street in the centre of Saranda where several buses stop and agencies are located alongside the street. So you may need to walk up and down Rruga Flamurit Street to ask different agencies for their next bus departure. There is no large bus terminal, rather buses depart alongside this road from different bus stops.

Buses in Albania are operated by independent operators, which each have their own bus timetable. These timetables are not followed very strictly, so asking around and a bit of waiting will be required when you travel by bus in Albania.

Saranda to Gjirokaster bus timetable

The buses from Saranda to Gjirokaster depart only during the day time hours, between 6 AM and 5 PM. 

There are many different bus operators that offer buses from Saranda to Gjirokaster. For instance, Butrinti Travel & Tours has a bus from Saranda to Gjirokaster that departs at 10:00 AM, 11:30 AM and 13:00 PM. Argjiro Shpk has a bus from Saranda to Gjirokaster at 11:00 AM, 11:30 AM, 13:00 PM, 14:00 PM and 17:00 PM. Best Travel Gjirokaster has a bus departure from Saranda to Gjirokaster at 8:00 AM, 9:00 AM, 13:00 PM and 17:00 PM. And Trans Dea has a bus from Saranda to Gjirokaster at 8:00 AM, 10:15 AM, 11:00 AM, 12:00 PM, 13:00 PM and 15:00 PM. 

What is going to happen, is that you will arrive at the street between the Friendship Park and the archaeological ruins of the Synagogue – Basilica. You will then need to approach different bus agencies and bus drivers to ask at what time the next bus from Saranda to Gjirokaster will depart. 

Although bus timetables are published online on the  Gjirafa Autobus website, the buses may or may not depart according to those timetables. Of course, you can travel from Saranda to Gjirokaster by bus, but you will need to ask around at the bus station and wait for the next bus departure. It may feel confusing and unorganized as a foreigner, compared to bus travel in the USA or Western Europe, but this is how bus travel in Albania works.

Bus station Saranda to the Blue Eye Spring

In the past, the buses from Saranda to Gjirokaster made a stop at the Blue Eye Spring. However, this was the old road from Saranda to Gjirokaster. Now, there is a new road from Saranda to Gjirokaster via Kardhiq. This new road does not pass by the Blue Eye spring. So it is best to take a taxi, a rental car or a tour to get from Saranda to the Blue Eye Spring.

Saranda to Tirana bus schedule

The bus from Saranda to Tirana departs at 5:00 AM, 5:30 AM, 6:30 AM, 8:30 AM, 9:30 AM, 10:30 AM, 14:00 PM and 22:00 PM. 

You can buy a bus ticket from Saranda to Tirana for 15.50 euros per person. The bus journey from Saranda to Tirana will take you approximately 5 hours. 

You can also double-check the Saranda to Tirana bus schedule on the website of Gjirafa Autobus. But you will always get the most reliable and up-to-date bus travel information by going to the bus station in Saranda in person.

How to get from Tirana airport to Saranda by bus? You cannot take a direct bus from Tirana airport to Saranda. There are direct buses from Tirana airport to Tirana, Durres, Fier and Vlore. However, if you want to get from Tirana airport to Saranda, you must first take a taxi from Tirana airport to the Regional Bus Terminal North and South Albania, which costs 25 euros. And then take a bus from the bus terminal to Saranda.
