  • Option 1: Bus from Saranda via the coastline to Vlore. Ask the bus driver to drop you off along the road in Dhermi.
  • Option 2: Bus from Saranda via the coastline to Tirana. Ask the bus driver to drop you off along the road in Dhermi.

Attention, most buses from Saranda to Vlore or from Saranda to Tirana drive via the shorter inland road. So please check before you board the bus that the bus in front of you drives via the coastline. Because only if the bus drives via the coastline, they can drop you off in Dhermi en route.

I recommend you go to Rruga Flamurit and Rruga Onhezmi early and talk to the bus drivers and bus agencies along the road. Bus travel in Albania can feel chaotic to a foreigner. So get there early and give yourself time to find the correct bus.

You can look for the Trans Dea bus agency or Olgeno Travel and Tours. Those bus operators offer buses that drive from Saranda along the coastline to Vlore/Tirana.

Of course, if you are going to Albania in July or August, car rental rates may be higher, because that is in the middle of the high season. 

Is there a train from Saranda to Dhermi?

There is no train from Saranda to Dhermi. Saranda and Dhermi do not have a railway station. And there are no railways further south than Vlore. 

Train travel in Albania is very limited. There are only 2 x operational trains per week between Elbasan and Durres. And 1 x operational train per week between Shkoder and Lac.

How long does it take to get from Saranda to Dhermi?

It may take you between 2 and 2.5 hours to drive from Saranda to Dhermi. The road alongside the coastline is a very hilly road that turns and twists along the coastline. Therefore, it is not possible or safe to drive quickly. 

If you are making a road trip by rental car or hiring a taxi. I recommend you make stops along the coastline for sightseeing, swimming and pictures. Some beautiful spots where you could stop along the journey are the Castle of Ali Pasha in the Bay of Porto Palermo, Borsh Beach, Jale Beach and Himare Beach.

If you are travelling by bus, you could take a bus from Saranda to Himare and then another bus/taxi from Himare to Dhermi. That would allow you to see Himare during your journey.

Is it worth visiting Dhermi?

Dhermi is a beach that usually attracts a young crowd. There is usually music played alongside the beach. There are restaurants and bars. It is a cool place. But it is not a quiet and remote place. 

If you are looking for a quieter and remote place, you may walk further along the beach to Drymades Beach. You can discover more remote and hidden beaches, by walking along the coastline or taking a little boat trip to a place like Gjipe Beach.

A bus ticket from Saranda to Tirana costs 15.50 euros. Buses depart from the centre of Saranda.
