Theth to Tirana taxi

• A 4 wheel drive taxi from Theth to Tirana costs 180 euros.

Theth to Tirana by car

• A basic rental car at Tirana airport or in Tirana city costs at least 20-25 euros per day. Prices are higher in July/August due to the tourist season.
• That being said, for safety reasons, it is better to go with the local bus or hire a 4 wheel drive taxi to go to Theth. 
• Because the mountain road to Theth is a one-lane asphalted road leading high into the mountains. When you meet traffic from the other direction maneuvering on the top of a cliff and getting off the road will be required. Local drivers know the terrain well and can handle it better.

Theth to Tirana train

• There is no train between Theth and Tirana.
• At the moment, there are only trains in operation between Durres and Elbasan (2-3 times a week) and Shkoder and Lac (once a week). However, these trains are old fashioned and slow.
• A new railway is under construction between Tirana-Tirana Airport-Durres, but has not opened yet. 
• That being said, none of these train routes will help you travel from Theth to Tirana, so your options are travelling by bus, by taxi or by car.

The first bus departs from Theth at 11:00 AM and it arrives in Shkoder at 13:30 PM. The second bus departs from Theth at 17:00 PM and it arrives in Shkoder at 19:30 PM.

The good news is that the “Shkoder Bus Station” is very close to Hotel Rozafa in Shkoder, as they are both near the Sheshi Demokracia / Democracy Square.

Buses from Shkoder to Tirana depart at 6:00 AM, 7:00 AM, 7:45 AM, 8:30 AM, 9:15 AM, 10:00 AM, 10:45 AM, 11:30 AM, 12:00 PM, 13:00 PM, 14:00 PM, 15:00 PM, 16:00 PM and 17:00 PM. 

A bus ticket from Shkoder to Tirana will cost you 500 Leke (5 euros) per person. You must pay cash for your bus ticket with the bus driver upon boarding the bus. This bus ticket cannot be booked online, as the bus drivers do not have a website or online booking system. 

The bus journey from Shkoder to Tirana will take approximately 2 hours. And upon arrival, the bus driver will drop you off at the Tirana Bus Terminal North and South Albania. 

The Tirana Bus Terminal North and South Albania is located outside the city centre of Tirana. So you must take another city bus or taxi to get to the city centre of Tirana. Once you get off the bus, you can exit the bus terminal and cross the street towards the “Terminal Hotel” and the petrol station. There is a bus stop just in front of the petrol station. Take a bus to “Qender”, which means “city centre” in Albanian language. Get off the bus near Skanderbeg Square which is the central square in the city centre of Tirana.

Because there is only one-lane, drivers often need to get off the road at the top of a cliff to let other drivers pass. Which can be quite scary, because it is so high in the mountains and there is little space alongside the road. That is why I recommend hiring a local driver for safety reasons.

The city bus from the centre of Tirana to the Tirana Bus Terminal North and South Albania departs from a bus stop at the back of the National History Museum on Skanderbeg Square. The bus stop is located in Rruga Ded Gjo Luli. Get on a bus with the destination “Instituti”, this bus makes a stop at the Tirana Bus Terminal North and South Albania.

Once you are at the Tirana Bus Terminal North and South Albania, you can get on the bus from Tirana to Shkoder.
