Is it better to stay in Saranda or Ksamil?
If you are looking for a large coastal city with a promenade, then Saranda is better. If you are looking for a beach village with sandy beaches and sun chairs, then Ksamil is better. Let me explain the differences.
Although Saranda and Ksamil are close together, they have a very different feeling. Saranda is a big coastal city. In Saranda, you can expect many hotels, apartments, big buildings and facilities. Along the coastline, there is a promenade with many restaurants, cafes and shops overlooking the bay. There is a harbour with small boats and big cruise ships and ferries.
Ksamil is a beach village. There are more family houses and apartments. Along the coastline, there are sandy beaches, turquoise water and little islands you can visit by swimming or taking a boat. If you want to lay on a sun bed, go snorkelling and go to a more low-key restaurant, then Ksamil is more suitable for you.
Of course, there are many more beach villages along the Albanian Riviera, so could check out places like Borsh Beach, Jale Beach, Himare Beach or Dhermi Beach.
INSIDER TIP: If you find Saranda and Ksamil to be busy, you can try smaller beaches in between the two like Mirror Beach or Monastery Beach for instance. These pretty beaches are surrounded by cliffs and a much smaller setting.
How many days should I spend in Ksamil?
