• Step 2: Bus from Saranda to Himare. Price: 600 Leke (5.95 euros). Departs at 10:30 AM and 13:00. Trans Dea is located in Rruga Flamurit (Flamurit Street).

You can get from Ksamil to Himare by bus, but there is no direct bus. Therefore, you must first take a bus to Saranda and then transfer onto a bus to Himare.

Step 1: Ksamil to Saranda bus

To get from Ksamil to Himare, your first step is to get from Ksamil to Saranda. A bus ticket from Ksamil to Saranda costs 150 Leke (1.45 euros) per person. 

To get on the bus from Ksamil to Himare, you must go to one of the 4 bus stops in Ksamil. You can find the locations of the Ksamil bus stops on Google Maps below.

Ksamil to Saranda bus timetable

The bus from Ksamil to Saranda starts from Butrint. Butrint is an archaeological park, located just to the South of Ksamil. So the bus departs from Butrint and drives via Ksamil to Saranda. 

For example, the bus from Butrint departs at 7:00 or 7:30 and 10 minutes later the bus will make stops in Ksamil. So the bus will be in Ksamil around 7:10 or 7:40. 

The bus departs from Butrint at 7:00 AM, 7:30 AM, 8:00 AM, 8:30 AM, 9:00 AM, 9:30 AM, 10:00 AM, 10:30 AM, 11:00 AM, 11:30 AM, 12:30 PM, 13:30, 14:30, 15:30, 16:00, 16:30, 17:00, 17:30, 18:00, 18:30, 19:00, 19:30 and 20:00. So approximately 10 minutes after the bus departs from Butrint, the bus will make stops in Ksamil. 

The bus from Ksamil will make several stops in Saranda. If it is your goal to travel onwards by bus to Himare (or elsewhere in Albania) you must get off the bus in the centre of Saranda. 

The bus from Ksamil to Saranda will make a stop on Rruga Skënderbeu (Skanderbeg Road) in the centre of Saranda. The bus stop is near SOS Bar, Friendship Park and the archaeological remains of the Synagogue – Basilica. Get off the bus in the city centre, so that you can walk to the next bus stop to get to Himare.

Step 2: Saranda to Himare bus

Once you get to Saranda, you must walk to the Trans Dea Bus Agency. Trans Dea is located in Rruga Flamurit (Flamurit Street). That is the street between Friendship Park and the archaeological remains of the Synagogue – Basilica. All the buses from Saranda to another city, like Himare, depart from this street. 

Trans Dea is like a little restaurant that displays the bus timetables in the window. Buses to Himare will stop alongside the street.

The bus from Saranda to Himare departs at 10:30 AM and 13:00. A bus ticket from Saranda to Himare costs 600 Leke (5.95 euros) per person. The bus journey from Saranda to Himare will take you 1 hour and 30 minutes. 

You cannot book your bus ticket online or reserve a seat. If you want to get on the bus from Saranda to Himare, you must simply go to the bus stop early, wait for the bus to come and pay for your ticket in cash with the bus driver. Always bring some cash euros and cash Albanian Leke with you whilst you travel by bus through Albania. 

How much is a taxi from Ksamil to Himare?

Car rental prices in Saranda/Ksamil:

• Saranda Holiday Rent a Car charges 200 euros per week, so approximately 28.50 euros per day, for a Fiat Panda or a Toyota Yaris.
• Moto Adventure Cars and Motorcycles Rental charges 140 euros per week, so 20 euros per day, for a Toyota Yaris.
• Centrum Rent a Car Saranda charges 25 euros per day for a Suzuki Swift, Chevrolet Spark or Volkswagen Polo. 
• Brilant Car Rental Sarande charges 20 euros per day for a Toyota Yaris.
• Saranda Center Scooter and Car Rental charges 200 euros per week, so approximately 28.50 euros per day, for a Toyota Yarris 1.4 Diesel.
• Iri’s Car Rental charges 20 euros per day for a Nisan Note.

To get a good rate, I recommend you reach out to several car rental companies before you travel via WhatsApp or email.

Driving in Albania can be daunting for a foreigner. The Albanian drivers have a chaotic and sometimes aggressive style of driving. So you must be an experienced, confident and alert driver. 

The road from Ksamil via Saranda to Himare is indicated clearly by road signage. It is a turning and twisting road that leads alongside the coastline. It is a beautiful route, but it can only be driven slowly due to the mountains and turns alongside the coastline. 

Can I get from Ksamil to Himare by train?

You cannot get from Ksamil to Himare by train. Ksamil does not have a train station, Saranda does not have a train station and Himare does not have a train station. There are no railways in the South of Albania. 

Even within the North of Albania train travel is very limited. There are 2 trains per week between Elbasan and Durres. And there is 1 train per week between Shkoder and Lac.

How to get from Himare to Ksamil by bus?

There is no direct bus from Himare to Ksamil. First, you must take a bus from Himare to Saranda. Then, another bus from Saranda to Ksamil. 

Himare to Saranda bus

There are buses from Himare to Saranda at 14:30 and 17:00. A bus ticket costs 600 Leke (5.95 euros). The journey from Himare to Saranda will take you 1 hour and 30 minutes.

Saranda to Ksamil bus timetable

The bus from Saranda to Ksamil departs at 6:30, 7:00, 7:30, 8:00, 8:30, 9:00, 9:30, 10:00, 10:30, 11:00, 11:30, 12:00, 12:30, 13:30, 14:30, 15:30, 16:30, 17:00, 17:30, 18:00, 18:30, 19:00 and 21:30. A bus ticket from Saranda to Ksamil costs 150 Leke (1.45 euros) per person. You can get on the bus from Saranda to Ksamil in Rruga Jonianet near the Port of Saranda OR in Rruga Flamurit (near Friendship Park and SOS Bar) in the city centre of Saranda.

How to get from Tirana to Himare by bus?

If you are flying to Tirana airport, there is no direct bus from Tirana airport to Himare. You must travel to the Tirana Bus Terminal North and South Albania. This bus terminal is 15 minutes by taxi from the city centre of Tirana. Buses from Tirana to Himare depart at 5:30, 7:30, 9:00, 11:00, 13:00, 15:30 and 18:00. A bus ticket from Tirana to Himare cost 12 euros.

How to get from Corfu to Himare?

Instead of flying to Tirana airport, you can also fly to Corfu island. Corfu island is a Greek island in front of the Albanian coastline. From Corfu airport, take a 15-20 minute bus or taxi to the Port of Corfu. At the Port of Corfu, you can board a ferry from Corfu to Saranda (35-65 min). Once you arrive in Saranda, walk or take a taxi to the centre of Saranda, where you can take a bus to Himare from the Trans Dea bus agency.

Buses from Saranda to Gjirokaster depart at 8:00, 9:00, 11:00, 11:30, 13:00, 14:00 and 17:00. A bus ticket costs 400 Leke (3.95 euros). You can buy a bus ticket in person at the Trans Butrinti Bus Agency in Rruga Flamurit in the centre of Saranda.

Shkoder to Himare bus – There is no direct bus from Shkoder to Himare. You must take a bus from Shkoder to Tirana. And then another bus from Tirana to Himare. Buses from Shkoder to Himare depart at 6:00, 7:00, 7:45, 8:30, 9:15, 10:00, 10:45, 11:30, 12:00, 13:00, 14:00, 15:00 16:00 and 17:00.
