  • Step 1: Take a bus from Ksamil to Saranda. Price: 150 Leke (1.45 euros) per person. Departs every 30-60 min between 7:00 and 20:00. Takes 15-30 minutes to get to Saranda, traffic can slow you down in the summer months.
  • Step 2: Take a bus from Saranda via Dhermi to Vlore. Only buses that drive from Saranda via the coastline to Vlore will pass by Dhermi, with those buses you can ask to be dropped off in Dhermi.
  • There are buses from Saranda via Dhermi to Vlore at 10:45, 11:30 and 13:00. 
  • A bus ticket from Saranda to Dhermi may cost you around 1000 Leke (approximately 10 euros).

How to get from Ksamil to Dhermi by bus?

You can get from Ksamil to Dhermi by bus in two steps. First, you must take a bus from Ksamil to Saranda. Get off the bus in the city centre of Saranda. Then, get on a bus from Saranda along the coastline in the direction of Vlore or Tirana. These buses will pass by Dhermi and you can ask the bus driver to drop you off.

Step 1: Ksamil to Saranda by bus

To get from Ksamil to Dhermi, you must first take a bus from Ksamil to Saranda. The bus from Ksamil to Saranda costs 150 Leke (1.45 euros) per person. 

The bus that drives from Ksamil to Saranda, starts its journey in Butrint. Butrint is an archaeological park, located just to the South of Ksamil. This bus from Butrint will be in Ksamil approximately 10 minutes after departing Butrint. For example, the bus from Butrint departs at 7:00 or 7:30 and 10 minutes later the bus will make stops in Ksamil. So the bus will be in Ksamil around 7:10 or 7:40. 

The bus departs from Butrint at 7:00 AM, 7:30 AM, 8:00 AM, 8:30 AM, 9:00 AM, 9:30 AM, 10:00 AM, 10:30 AM, 11:00 AM, 11:30 AM, 12:30 PM, 13:30, 14:30, 15:30, 16:00, 16:30, 17:00, 17:30, 18:00, 18:30, 19:00, 19:30 and 20:00. So approximately 10 minutes after the bus departs from Butrint, the bus will make stops in Ksamil

You can see the locations of the bus stops in Ksamil on Google Maps online. Bear in mind that there may not be a clear bus stop, instead you may just be waiting alongside the road and waving at the bus to stop alongside the street to let you onboard. This is very common in Albania.

It will take 15-30 minutes to get from Ksamil to Saranda by bus. Your journey time will depend on traffic. In the summer months, traffic along the road from Ksamil to Saranda can be heavy.

If you are planning to travel onwards to Dhermi, you must get off the bus in the city centre of Saranda. The bus from Ksamil to Saranda will make a stop on Rruga Skënderbeu (Skanderbeg Road) in the centre of Saranda. The bus stop is near SOS Bar, Friendship Park and the archaeological remains of the Synagogue – Basilica. Get off the bus in the city centre, so that you can walk to the next bus stop.

Step 2: Saranda to Dhermi by bus

Once you are in the city centre of Saranda, you must get to Rruga Skënderbeu (Skanderbeg Road). This is the main bus street where buses stop alongside the road to other cities in Albania. This “bus road” is near Friendship Park and the archaeological remains of the Synagogue – Basilica. 

To get to Dhermi by bus, you must take a bus from Saranda that drives alongside the coastline to either Vlore or Tirana. Buses that drive alongside the coastline will pass by Dhermi, so you can ask the bus driver to drop you off in Dhermi. This is common practice in Albania.

A bus ticket from Saranda to Dhermi may cost you around 1000 Leke (approximately 10 euros). That is the ticket price for a bus from Saranda to Vlore, but of course, you would be getting off the bus early in Dhermi.

  • Saranda Holiday Rent a Car charges 200 euros per week, so approximately 28.50 euros per day, for a Fiat Panda or a Toyota Yaris.
  • Moto Adventure Cars and Motorcycles Rental charges 140 euros per week, so 20 euros per day, for a Toyota Yaris.
  • Centrum Rent a Car Saranda charges 25 euros per day for a Suzuki Swift, Chevrolet Spark or Volkswagen Polo. 
  • Brilant Car Rental Sarande charges 20 euros per day for a Toyota Yaris.
  • Saranda Center Scooter and Car Rental charges 200 euros per week, so approximately 28.50 euros per day, for a Toyota Yarris 1.4 Diesel.
  • Iri’s Car Rental charges 20 euros per day for a Nisan Note.

To get a good rate, I recommend you reach out to several car rental companies before you travel via WhatsApp or email.

Driving in Albania can be daunting for a foreigner. The Albanian drivers have a chaotic and sometimes aggressive style of driving. So you must be an experienced, confident and alert driver. 

The road from Ksamil via Saranda to Dhermi is indicated clearly by road signage. It is a turning and twisting road that leads alongside the coastline. It is a beautiful route, but it can only be driven slowly due to the mountains and turns alongside the coastline. 

Is there a train from Ksamil to Dhermi?

There is no train from Ksamil to Dhermi. There are no trains or railways in the South of Albania. So places like Ksamil, Dhermi, Saranda and Himare do not have a train station or railway connection. 

Train travel within Albania’s borders is very limited. There may be as little as 2 or 3 trains between Durres and Elbasan per week. And 1  train per week between Shkoder and Lac. Other old railways constructed during the communist period in Albania are no longer in use, although sometimes visible in the landscape.

Is Dhermi in Albania worth visiting?

Dhermi in Albania is worth visiting if you are looking for a beach holiday in a popular place. Basically, Dhermi is a village near the beach. So it is great for swimming, laying on the beach and having a bite to eat along the coastline. Dhermi is a popular beach village amongst a younger crowd. So you may meet a lot of young people and music is usually played at the beach. 

How do I get to Dhermi in Albania?

You can get to Dhermi in Albania in the following ways:

  • Option 1: Fly to Tirana Airport and travel onwards to Dhermi.
    If you fly to Tirana Airport, you can take a direct taxi to Dhermi which costs 160 euros. Alternatively, you can take the Tirana airport bus to Vlore which costs 1200-1500 Leke (12-15 EUR). Then take a bus to Himare, which passes by Dhermi or a taxi to Dhermi.
  • Option 2: Fly to Corfu Airport on the Greek Corfu island, take a ferry to Albania and then travel onwards to Dhermi.
    Depending on where you live, it might be easier to find a direct flight and affordable ticket to Corfu Airport. Once you arrive at Corfu airport, you can take a taxi or bus to the Port of Corfu. And get on the ferry to Saranda in Albania. From Saranda, you can take a bus via the coastline to Dhermi or a taxi to Dhermi.

How many days should I stay in Dhermi?

You can visit Dhermi for 1 day or stay for several days if you enjoy spending time on the beach and relaxing. You could visit Dhermi for several hours if you are making a road trip alongside the coastline from Vlore to Saranda or vice versa. Or you could spend several days in Dhermi if you are planning a relaxing holiday on the beach.

How much is the ferry from Ksamil to Corfu? There is no direct ferry from Ksamil to Corfu. You must take a taxi or bus from Ksamil to Saranda. Ferries depart from the Port of Saranda to Corfu. A ferry ticket from Saranda to Corfu costs between 19 and 25 euros depending on the season you travel.
