If you are booking a cabin with beds, then your ferry ticket will increase to anywhere between 70 euros and 177 euros. Of course, your ferry ticket will increase more if you are bringing a car onboard the ferry. 

Below I will give you a short overview of the ferry ticket prices for GNV Grandi Navi Veloci, Ventouris Ferris and Adria Ferries. I will compare prices for seats only, internal cabins, sea view cabins and bringing a car onboard the ferry.

GNV Grandi Navi Veloci – Ticket prices

A ferry ticket with GNV Grandi Navi Veloci costs anywhere between 48 euros and 208 euros. Prices vary based on whether you only book a seat onboard, a private cabin with an internal view or a private cabin with a sea view. Of course, your ticket is more expensive if you are bringing a car onboard the ferry. And finally, there are price fluctuations between high-season and low-season, just like with aeroplane tickets. 

The cheapest option is booking a seat only. You basically get a chair in a room, similar to when you are flying with an aeroplane. A seat only costs between 48 euros and 59 euros. Of course, prices fluctuate between high and low seasons. 

If you are bringing your car onboard the ferry, the price increases. You are now charged between 122 euros – 148 euros for a car + seat.

Seat only = Between 48 euros – 59 euros
Car onboard + seat = Between 122 euros – 148 euros

If you want to be more comfortable on board the ferry. You can book a private cabin. These are small cabins with in most cases bunkbeds. Similar to what you would expect to see when you book a hostel. 

The cheapest option for cabins is booking an internal cabin, called an “inside cabin”. An inside cabin costs between 92 euros and 131 euros, if you are travelling without a car. If you are however bringing your car onboard, the prices increase to between 173 euros and 181 euros. 

Inside cabin only = Between 92 euros – 131 euros
Car onboard + inside cabin = Between 173 euros – 181 euros

You can also choose a private cabin with a sea view, which is slightly more expensive. A private cabin with a sea view costs between 98 euros and 177 euros if you are travelling without a car. And if you are bringing your car onboard the ferry, then a cabin with a sea view will cost between 187 euros and 208 euros.

Car onboard + sea view cabin = Between 187 euros – 208 euros

Ventouris Ferries – Ticket prices

A ferry ticket with Ventouris Ferries costs anywhere between 50 euros and 140 euros. Prices vary based on whether you only book a chair, a private cabin with an internal view or a private cabin with an external view. Also, prices are higher if you bring a car onboard. And of course, there are low-season, middle-season and high-season prices. So let me give you an indication of what the ferry will cost approximately. 

If you are only booking an armchair, you will pay between 50 euros and 70 euros for your ferry ticket from Bari to Durres. 

Seat only = Between 50-70 euros

Of course, the more comfortable option is a private cabin. The cheaper cabins do have an internal view. A cabin with an internal view will cost you between 72 euros and 105 euros depending on the season you book. 

Inside cabin only = Between 72-105 euros

You can also book a more expensive cabin with a sea view. A cabin with a sea view costs between 85 euros and 140 euros depending on in which period you travel.

What is it like to travel by ferry from Bari to Durres?

In my personal experience travelling on board, the ferry from Bari to Durres is a means of transportation, rather than an experience. The ferry boats that I have boarded from GNV and Adria had an old-fashioned feel to them. 

I booked internal cabins on all my trips for me and my family. And it felt like staying in a hostel with your family. The cabins that I stayed in were small rooms with bunkbeds and no windows. The design was all green and brownish, with a shower curtain, flickering light and fibre plastic on the walls. In essence, old fashioned and basic, like you would expect in a hostel. Nothing wrong with that, just that is what to expect.

The corridors had old-fashioned carpets, as you would expect in an old hotel. And there were people sitting on the floor and sleeping on the floor in the corridors. Because the cheapest option is booking a chair on board or a seat on the deck, so those people did not have a cabin with a bed. And would very often hang out on the floor and try to sleep on the floor. 

All of the people I met onboard these ferry boats were nice. Friendly and lovely staff and fellow travellers. And of course, I also met some truck drivers who transport their loads by ferry between Italy and Albania. 

Buying insurance for your car in the Port of Durres

If you are bringing your car onboard the ferry from Bari to Durres, you might be wondering about car insurance. If you have bought car insurance in the UK or Europe, most likely Albania is not covered by this car insurance. Simply because Albania is not a part of the European Union. So normally, you would need to buy separate car insurance upon entry to Albania. 

There is a car insurance office in the Port of Durres. You and many other drivers will park their cars and buy car insurance at this insurance office. I do highly recommend sorting out your car insurance straight away at the Port of Durres. Because Albania has a lot of traffic police. 

Although there are no traffic cameras or CCTV in Albania, you will most likely be stopped at least once by the traffic police. Because you have a car with a foreign number plate. No issue, you will need to show your insurance, driver’s licence and car ownership paperwork. But make sure you buy the insurance straight away to avoid any issues with the traffic police.

You can book a ferry from Durres to Bari. Most ferries sail from Durres to Bari overnight, so you will arrive in Bari the next morning.
