• Corfu to Saranda ferry tickets generally cost between 19-30 EUR per ticket. 
• In the summer months, it is more likely you will pay around 25-30 EUR per person one-way.
• You can buy ferry tickets online on the website of Finikas Lines or Ionian Seaways. Bear in mind that sometimes their booking systems are not open / not operational yet. 
• Alternatively, you can buy a ferry ticket at the ticket office on Corfu island.
• Both Finikas Lines and Ionian Seaways have a ticket office on Corfu island and near the Port of Saranda.

Corfu to Saranda ferry duration

• There are two types of ferries between Corfu and Saranda. 
• Option 1: Flying Dolphin Highspeed Hydrofoils are fast.  
• Option 2: Traditional passenger/car ferries are slower.
• Travelling from Corfu to Saranda with the Flying Dolphin Highspeed Hydrofoil takes about 30 minutes. 
• Travelling from Corfu to Saranda with the traditional car & passenger ferry boat takes about 50-70 minutes.
• On the websites of Ionian Seaways and Finikas Lines the ferry departure times are color coded to indicate which ferries are fast ferries and slow ferries. 

Corfu to Saranda distance

• The distance from Corfu to Saranda is 35.7 kilometers by boat from the Port of Corfu to the Port of Saranda. 
• Although there are different numbers published online like 28 or 30 kilometers, the actual distance is 35.7 kilometers as published by the ferry operator Ionian Seaways.
• Taking a ferry from Corfu to Saranda takes either 30-35 minutes by speed ferry or 50-70 minutes by passenger/car ferry.
• The majority of the boats operating between Corfu and Saranda are Highspeed Hydrofoil “Flying Dolphin” boats. If you book this Flying Dolphin it only takes 30-35 minutes to get from Corfu to Saranda.
• Every day, there are between 0-6 car/passenger ferries, depending on the season. By car ferry, it takes 50-70 minutes to get from Corfu to Saranda. 

Corfu to Saranda car ferry

• You can only bring a car onboard the ferry from Corfu to Saranda if you book the car ferry. 
• The majority of boat departures between Corfu and Saranda are highspeed hydrofoil Flying Dolphins; These boats do not accommodate cars. So you specifically need to book the car ferry.
• It is not allowed to bring a rental car from Corfu onboard the ferry to Albania. Because Greek rental cars are not allowed to cross the border to Albania.
• Between 1 January and 30 April, there are no car ferries in operation. Only passenger boats.
• Between 1 May and 31 May, you can book a car ferry at 13:00 PM or 19:00 PM from Corfu to Saranda. 
• Between 1 June and 15 October, you can book a car ferry at 9:00 AM, 13:00 PM, 14:00 PM, 18:00 PM, 19:00 PM, 22:30 PM from Corfu to Saranda.
• Between 16 October and 31 October, you can book the car ferry at 19:00 PM from Corfu to Saranda.
• From 1 November until 31 December,  there are no car ferries in operation. Only passenger boats.

Corfu to Saranda day trip

• You can go from Corfu to Saranda for a day trip by taking the first ferry at 8:30 AM or 9:00 AM from Corfu to Saranda, spend a day in Saranda, then take a ferry back at 18:00 PM or 20:00 PM from Saranda to Corfu.
• Depart by ferry from Corfu to Saranda at 8:30 AM or 9:00 AM.

• Of course, Finikas Lines sells ferry tickets at their ticket office in Saranda and their ticket office on Corfu island as well.

• It is easy to get from Corfu to Saranda, especially in the summer months when there are many ferry departures every day. 
• Step 1: Book a flight to Corfu Airport. Many European countries offer summer flights to Corfu Airport.
• Step 2: Take a taxi or bus from Corfu Airport to the Port of Corfu. Duration about 20 min. Bus line 15 goes from the airport to the Port of Corfu. Bus ticket: 1.10 – 1.20 EUR per person.
• Step 3: Take the ferry from Corfu to Saranda. Duration: 30 min by speed ferry, 50-70 min by car/passenger ferry. Ticket: 19-30 EUR. Arrival destination: Port of Saranda.

That being said, the ferry timetables of Finikas Lines and Ionian Seaways are very similar and often almost identical. So if you find one of the timetables has been published, you can expect the other ferry operator to soon publish an identical timetable online.

A ferry ticket from Corfu to Saranda costs around 19-30 EUR per person for a one-way ferry journey. If you are travelling in the summer months, you are more likely to pay around 25-30 EUR for your ferry tickets, as it is the high season.

How long is the ferry from Corfu to Saranda?

The ferry boat journey from Corfu to Saranda takes 30 minutes on the fast boat or 50-70 minutes on the slow boat. Let me explain it in detail.

• Duration from Corfu to Saranda either 30 minutes or 50-70 minutes depending on the boat
• Option 1: Flying Dolphin Highspeed Hydrofoil from Corfu to Saranda only takes about 30 minutes.
• Option 2: Traditional car and passenger ferry from Corfu to Saranda takes between 50-70 minutes. 

Basically, there are two types of boats operating between Corfu and Saranda. The fast boats are called “Flying Dolphin Highspeed Hydrofoil”, with these fast boats it only takes 30 minutes to get from Corfu to Saranda. Alternatively, you can take the traditional car and passenger ferry boat, which takes about 50-70 minutes. 

Both Finikas Lines and Ionian Seaways have different colors on their ferry timetables indicating the faster ferries and slower ferries. Basically, the color of the time on the timetable shows you if it is a fast or a slow ferry boat.

What is the distance from Corfu to Saranda?

The distance from Corfu to Saranda is 35.7 kilometers from the Port of Corfu to the Port of Saranda. Although there are different numbers being published online. The 35.7 kilometers is the correct distance, because this is the number from Ionian Seaways, which is a ferry boat operator.

Now, there are two types of boats operational between Corfu and Saranda. You can book the speed ferry, which takes only 30-35 minutes OR you can book the slower car/passenger ferry boat which takes 50-70 minutes.

The majority of the boats operating between Corfu and Saranda are Highspeed Hydrofoil “Flying Dolphin” boats. If you book this Flying Dolphin it only takes 30-35 minutes to get from Corfu to Saranda.

Can I take my car onboard the Corfu to Saranda ferry?

You can take your car onboard the Corfu to Saranda ferry, if your car is not a rental car from Corfu and if you book the car ferry (not the hydrofoil). Let me explain. 

“The transport of rental cars from Corfu to Albania is not permitted.” Quote from Ionian Seaways

Rental cars from Corfu or mainland Greece are not allowed to cross the border to Albania. This has something to do with Greek insurance policies not allowing cars to go to Albania. So you cannot bring a rental car from Corfu to Albania. 

There are two types of ferry boats between Corfu and Saranda. If you want to bring a car onboard the ferry, you must book the car ferry. Bear in mind, that the majority of boat departures are Highspeed Hydrofoil Flying Dolphins and you cannot bring a car onboard the Flying Dolphin. So you would need to specifically book the car ferry. 

Below, I have added the car ferry timetable. I have only added the boats that can accommodate bringing a car onboard. In the winter months, there are no car ferry departures. How long is the day trip from Corfu to Saranda?

In the summer months, you can make a day trip from Corfu to Saranda starting at 8:30 AM or 9:00 AM from Corfu and back at 20:00 PM from Saranda to Corfu. So a day trip is a maximum of 11.5 hours in the summer months when there are a lot of ferry departures.

If you want to make a day trip independently, you could take the first ferry from Corfu to Saranda departing at 8:30 AM or 9:00 AM. Then you can spend the day in Saranda. And take the last ferry back from Saranda to Corfu at 18:00 PM or 20:00 PM. Finikas Lines has published their ferry timetable for the summer months already, so you could check the first and last ferry departures online on their website.

The alternative is booking an organized tour. You could go from Corfu to Saranda and visit nearby sightseeing destinations.

Corfu to Saranda day trip

• Depart by ferry from Corfu to Saranda at 8:30 AM or 9:00 AM. 
• Sightseeing option 1: 1 day tour from Corfu to Lekuresi Castle and Butrint UNESCO site
• Sightseeing option 2: 1 day tour from Corfu to Ksamil beach and Butrint UNESCO site

In the winter months, there is often only 1 x ferry departure per day, so you would need to stay overnight in Saranda for 1 x night and take the ferry back to Corfu the next day. 

Is it worth going from Corfu to Saranda?

It is worth going from Corfu to Saranda by ferry. You could stay in Saranda for a relaxing day or go sightseeing at destinations near Saranda.

If you decide to stay in Saranda, you could stroll along the boulevard and harbour and have a relaxing lunch at a restaurant overlooking the coastline. You could take a taxi up to Lekuresi Castle, which is located at the top of the city and offers views over the entire city and coastline below. 

Alternatively, you could go sightseeing at destinations near Saranda. Here are some options:

• Butrint UNESCO park (30 min drive from Saranda)
• Ksamil beach & islands (15-20 min drive from Saranda)
• Blue Eye spring (45 min drive from Saranda)
• Gjirokaster UNESCO city (1 hour drive from Saranda)

Butrint and Ksamil are located along the same road, so you could visit the Butrint UNESCO park in the early morning and then go to Ksamil Beach in the afternoon.

The Blue Eye spring and Gjirokaster UNESCO city are in the same direction, so you could visit the Blue Eye spring for 1 hour and then drive onwards to Gjirokaster for lunch time in the old stone city.

Butrint UNESCO Park (30 min drive from Saranda)

Butrint is the most impressive UNESCO Heritage site in Albania. Throughout history, Butrint was a Greek city, a Roman city and a Biscopic. What makes Butrint special is the unique combination of archaeological ruins, which are surrounded by water and nature. Nature has integrated itself in the historical sight, which makes it a beautiful place to visit. 

Butrint is an archaeological park, where you can see ruins and historical buildings from all the different periods throughout history. Butrint was initially a prehistoric site, with its first occupation dating back to 50 000 BC. Then from 800 BC, it became a Greek colony. In 44 BC, it was taken over by the Romans, who built an aqueduct across the Vivari channel to the mainland. Then in the 5th century AD, Butrint was ruled by the Church and its Bishop. In the 9th century, after briefly being abandoned, it was reconstructed by the Byzantine empire. In the 14th century, the Venetians controlled the site and strengthened the defensive works. And finally, Ali Pasha, an Albanian governor during the Ottoman empire, ruled the city. In the late middle ages, Butrint was abandoned.

Ksamil Beach & Ksamil islands (15-20 min drive from Saranda)

Ksamil beach is a paradise-like beach in the South of Albania. Therefore, the Albanian people describe Ksamil beach as “the pearl of the Albanian Riviera”. Without a doubt, Ksamil beach is the prettiest beach in the country. The beach is set on a little peninsula with perfect white sand. And the water in the bay is a bright green colour and the clearest water you have ever seen. 

At Ksamil beach, there are four little islands in the sea close to the beach. The most famous are the twin islands, which are connected to each other by a narrow strip of land. If you have always wanted to visit an uninhabited island, this is your chance. From the beach, you can swim to the nearest island. Or you can rent a boat or kayak to visit the islands, which are further away.

Blue Eye spring (45 min drive from Saranda)

The Blue Eye of Albania is one of the most beautiful places to see in Albania. The Blue Eye is a natural freshwater spring. The natural spring pumps bright blue water to the surface of the river. The Blue Eye has become a tourist attraction since the water of the spring is a magical blue colour. The water is so bright, that you won’t believe it is all-natural. 

Moreover, the spring resembles a human eye. The dark underwater cave looks like the black pupil of a human eye. And the bright blue water looks like the iris of a human eye. If you dare, you can jump into the Blue Eye spring, which is more than 50 metres deep. But bear in mind that the water is ice cold all year long.

Gjirokaster UNESCO city (1 hour drive from Saranda)

Gjirokaster is a historical city, which is on the UNESCO heritage list. Walking through Gjirokaster gives you an insight into what the city was like during the Turkish Ottoman Empire. The city has typical stone houses and cobblestone streets. Therefore, Gjirokaster is also known as the “stone city”. 

The city of Gjirokaster is known in Albania as a “museum city” because it has beautiful historical buildings everywhere. It is a lovely city to stroll through.

Is it easy to get from Corfu to Saranda?

It is easy to get from Corfu to Saranda, especially in the summer months when there are many ferry departures every day. 

• Step 1: Book a flight to Corfu Airport
• Step 2: Take a taxi or bus from Corfu Airport to the Port of Corfu
• Step 3: Take the ferry from Corfu to Saranda

First, you book a flight to Corfu Airport. Then, you take a taxi or bus from Corfu Airport to the Port of Corfu. And finally, you take a ferry from Corfu to Saranda. 

Step 1: Book a flight to Corfu Airport

Check if your nearest airport offers a flight to Corfu island. Corfu is a summer destination, so many European countries offer seasonal flights to Corfu only in the summer months.

Step 2: Take a taxi or bus from Corfu Airport to the Port of Corfu​

Ferries from Corfu to Albania depart from the Port of Corfu. Once you arrive at Corfu Airport, you must take a bus or a taxi to the Port of Corfu. It only takes about 20 minutes by bus or by taxi. You can take bus line No 15 from the Corfu Airport to the Port of Corfu, this bus departs every 30-60 min and costs around 1.10 – 1.20 EUR per person.

• Ferries from Corfu to Saranda are operated by two ferry companies: Finikas Lines and Ionian Seaways.
• A ferry ticket usually costs between 19-30 EUR per person.

• Speed Ferries: By Highspeed Hydrofoil “Flying Dolphin”, it only takes about 30-35 minutes to get from Corfu to Saranda.
• Slower Car/Passenger boats: By car ferry, it takes about 50-70 minutes to get from Corfu to Saranda
• You can buy a ferry ticket in person at the ticket office on Corfu island or near the Port of Saranda.
• If the reservation system is open, you can book your ferry ticket on the website of Ionian Seaways or the website of Finikas Lines online. Online reservation systems are not always operational.
• Ferry timetables change every month. In the summer months there may be 12-13 ferry departures per day. In the winter months, there is only 1 ferry per day.

Do you need to book the Corfu to Saranda ferry in advance?

You do not need to book the Corfu to Saranda ferry in advance. A lot of tourists pay for their ferry ticket in person at the ticket office on Corfu island and near the Port of Saranda. In the summer months, there are around 12-13 ferry departures per day, so you can always take a later or earlier ferry.

Of course, you can book your ferry ticket online on the website of Ionian Seaways or the website of Finikas Lines. My personal experience is that sometimes ferry timetables are not published online yet and online reservation systems are not always operational. So it could be that you won’t be able to book a ferry boat in advance yet. 

Is Saranda worth a visit?

Saranda is worth a visit, if you enjoy staying in a buzzing coastal city in the summer months. Saranda is a big beach city, where you can expect many facilities. There are a great number of hotels and apartments. A coastline boulevard along the water with restaurants, bars and shops. 

For sightseeing, it is worth driving up to Lekuresi Castle. This castle is located at the top of the mountain above Saranda and it offers amazing views over all of Saranda down with the Ionian Sea. It is absolutely beautiful and also stunning at night.

If you are interested in sightseeing, Saranda is a great base from where to go sightseeing to nearby sights like:
